French Friday’s with Dorie
When we started with French Fridays with Dorie nearly 5 years ago, it didn’t take very long for me to realize there would be assignments which would not do much to inspire my writing. I would dutifully cook the dish as required. Then I would do my best to take a worthy photograph while husband stood by patiently. But later that week as I tried to write about it I would end up staring at my computer screen and frustrated when the words would fail to materialize.
No funny anecdotes from my personal history poured forth. I would have nothing special to say about an exotic ingredient I knew we all would have trouble finding. No snarky observations at all.
The drive to participate and be a part of the Dorista community would prove to be strong, however, so I had to think of something to keep the pace. Enter Haiku French Fridays! I discovered that by resorting to a pithy haiku I could could easily crank out a post on topic, communicate something mildly entertaining, and still trick some of you into thinking I was being more profound than I was trying to be.
Haiku is very forgiving that way. So please forgive me as I rely on it again to get me through this final French Friday’s post.
our global journey

🙂
one thing is certain
we need one thing after this
summer vacation!
LOL – I am so glad that you finished up with some haikus. They were a highlight for me. I just went with the boring post when I had nothing else to say – made this, what did I change, tasted good/bad etc – not inspiring sometimes. Maybe I should have thought of a device like the haiku! Trevor, I have loved cooking along with you and your posts have always made me laugh. I hope that you keep blogging even after you have caught up with all the FFWD recipes, and I look forward to seeing what you do next!
Oh Gaye, it makes me so happy to know you were here and laughed! That is all I ever wanted and I’m so glad you are going to stick around!
Oh Trevor, Haiku’d you ?
Sorry, couldn’t resist:)
This was a priceless finale. Spot on-as usual. Love that my Mom and I got to know you and love how remarkably close this group of givers became. What an adventure indeed. Thanks for your wonderful posts and your generous comments. For your art and your creativity. Your wit and honesty. And for the endless gorgeous photos and styling. On to the new adventures and keeping in touch !
Please plan on keeping in touch and thank you so much for your kind words dear lady. Please don’t think you can shake me off just because we are done with this phase of our little group! xoxo, T.
Such a fitting ending with numerous haikus! It’s been a joy to watch your blog grow and mature–and to have you as a friend! I know you will continue to inspire me—thanks for that! xo
Liz dear you were an icon to me even before we started this thing. To hear I inspire YOU inspires me and than YOU for that! XXOO, T.
Cooking together.
But it’s so much more than that.
We’re friends forever.
(I suck at Haiku)
Thank you Trevor. It’s been such a pleasure getting to know you through your intelligent and witty posts. Hope we can toast the end of this great adventure in real life sometime soon! XO
You suck at haiku?
Argue your limitation,
And find it is true.
A delightful and fitting post to finish up our FF journey! If you didn’t Haiku, I would have been disappointed! It has been a joy cooking along with you. Your wit and humor have always brought a smile to my face. You are so talented, Trevor! Your photography and presentations are gorgeous, and they inspire me to better my own. Looking forward to what’s next! Hugs!
Dear one if I have inspired your growth then I am truly rewarded for being a part of this group all these years. Wow. I hope that whatever is next we both keep inspiring each other! I won’t be baking along with you but I can’t wait to see what comes forth from your kitchen going forward!
XO,
T.
Trevor, you certainly had me “fooled”. You’ve always had a creative, interesting voice (even when you didn’t haiku). And your photography has become breathtaking. Of course, you had me at bourbon!
I know, clever man, that you have much up your sleeve, and I am looking forward to the reveal when it happens. As I’ve said, this is a graduation – or even more of a commencement of the next part of our journey.
All my very best!! Candy
Trevor, Sis Boom Blog,
Posts Pithy Haiku on Food.
French Fridays Rock On
Trevor, you always make me laugh, or at least smile. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you over the course of this amazing journey. I’m looking forward to seeing what you and Laurie have cooked up for “next”. Have a great summer! (I feel like I’m back in high school, writing in your yearbook.)
Live in the present
We are what we have done here
quite magnificent
our time together
remember it with laughter
or at least a smile
When I saw the Oso Buco first in your list I laughed. I remember you bugging all of us: when are we going to make the oso buco. I think you voted for it when it wasn’t even a choice!
What can I say… I’m not much for public displays of affection even though I am Italian I’m still from CT. When you are in NYC (SOON) I will embarrass myself and give you a big hug.
Remember a cathedral and a Hungarian bakery are calling you….
Until then.
I had quite a story to tell about that Oso Bucco but it wasn’t meant to be. Que sera sera… but it was certainly one of those things I have always wanted to make but have always felt intimidated by. You and I are such alike. We are not really the PDA types are well….but also for you I will make an exception. Big hugs soon I hope! I may be bringing Sina tot he city to attend a wedding but it will be over Labor Day. Ugh. Even *I* would not presume to drag you into the city on Labor Day!

Dear Trevor, it has been a true pleasure to have met you and get to know you a bit through your writing and your amazing photography which I so admire – actually, I am quite curious by now to learn what Laurie and you have planned for September – no hints…?…
In the meantime – time to still celebrate a bit and take a bit easy during the summer,
Andrea
Dearest Lioness
photographic praise from you?
this is quite humbling
Trevor, it has been such a pleasure to meet you, both in person and thru your postings. I have enjoyed every
one of them. It’s amazing what this journey has done for all of us beyond the cooking, the friendships are
something else. Good luck to you and I know I will be following you on FB and continue to read your blog.
Ro.
I am delighted I will be hearing from you here. Quite seriously knowing that my Dorista pals will still be checking in on me is the number one reason right now I have decided to continue…after a brief rest!
So sad. It’s over.
Doristas forever. No?
We shall meet again.
Food was often good.
People were truly the best.
Figure out what’s next.
It’s been a blast. And if you are ever in Hudson and ever have some free time…I would gladly haul a## down there for a visit.
My dear Lady Rogue
I don’t say ‘goodbye’ to friends
YOU cannot shake me.
What is next they say?
People think I have a plan!
My plan is “no plan”!
Last to comment and
there’s something in my eye now…
Long live Doristas!
A haiku farewell?
So you Trevor, fun and bright
Like Sis Boom fireworks!
Be a dear and call
if you find yourself at la
Isla bonita.
Dorista chica!
your land is def in my plans
plan on seeing me!
I love the way you always capture YOUR voice in your posts:) That is what makes your blog so special Trevor. Well, that and the beautiful photos. Beautiful photos definitely help! Its been a pleasure and I look forward to whatever happens next! Take care.
Salmon in a jar
Barefoot Contessa cooked it
Or maybe she lied?
She said she’d cook it
But for the large promises
She has assistants
I knew you wouldn’t disappoint. All these dishes look amazing and now I want Veal Marengo. Sad to see the Doristas moving on but then not because all our friends remain.
Around our tables,
Doristas came together.
In spirit, at least.
Four-and-a-half years
And every dish made, by some.
Others, nearly so.
An accomplishment.
But more – a community
Of friendship and fun.
Sad to see the end,
Though there’ll be more adventures
And catch-ups, of course.
