French Fridays with Dorie – Happy National Haiku Day!
Its simple, really.
Catalogue annoyances
then find perspective.
Dude, you have a job.
Those you love came home last night
Who cares about “stress”?
So what if your late
and never post on fridays?
Get over it girl!
Still, I have to eat
and not much time for cooking.
(Food blogger problems.)
And I have to choose
drop dead simple foods such as
adapted for National Haiku Day from Dorie Greenspan's "Around My French Table"
This is what you will need:
- 2 bags of spinach
- Grated zest of one lemon
- Some olive oil
This is how you make it:
- Set up your steamer
- Add then boil the water
- Dump spinach in bowl
- Lightly toss with olive oil
- Add zest (and some salt)
- Add it all to the steam and cover the pot.
- Cook to your preference it only takes a few minutes.
Love you, Trevor! This is so delightful!
Thank you! I’m always happy to hear that someone actually enjoys a haiku food post now and then!
Haiku’s we all love
Recipes? Even better.
Give me some spinach.
Glad to see “Haiku Trevor” back.
Cheers
Ah! Haiku Trevor!
He never went very far
He just gets lazy.

Joyeux Jour National de Haiku
I wish I could Haiku, but itโs not one of my talentsโฆgreat post! Happy Haiku Day!!
For haiku day I have decided to be perverse and offer you an Elizabethan sonnet inspired by your post:
‘Twas dinnertime – I woke as from a dream
The day was gone, & I had spent it thus.
Now barely time to find some greens to steam
I’d best make them quickly & w/o much fuss
Oh! Why do I find myself in such a mess?
Wasting my years wondering what could have been?
In truth, I do not suffer what most call stress
My life is by and large carefree and keen
And yet, ’tis human to complain and fret
Even though I have the luxury to blog
(& if you’re reading this, so do you I’ll bet)
So shake your head and get out of your fog
Do as Trevor: Roll up your sleeves and bake
And wake your lover with a slice of cake
I’m impressed.
I think this is the most fantastic comment ever. Ever! I want to dress as Elizabeth I and have it read to me daily during Court.
What a marvelous comment from Trix Middlekauff. Kudos to you, Trix. I too am impressed. Trevor, I can’t wait for the Elizabeth post.
A day for Haiku? Who knew?
This is my first encounter with Haiku Trevor. What a charming and delightful persona. Love it. Love him. Love the Haiku.
Gather the spinach
lemon zest scent of yellow
the kill room awaits
Thank you Mary and AdriBarr!! It was fun. And Trevor, I would love to read this and more to you at court but if you dress as Elizabeth who shall I be? Oh! I know. Francis Bacon.
Don’t make me be Mary Queen of Scots…
You are a novice?
This I can’t really believe.
(We all pale to Trix.)
oh…
I will be Liz’beth
Clearly this is make-believe
(I’m not a virgin.)
Francis and Dudley?
We know who had the most fun:
Ladies in Waiting!
A day for haiku?
Why do we need a whole day?
Haiku comes quickly.
GREG

I have not been far

Very clever post
With a nice recipe too
And easy besides.
Had to be easy!
Not sure what I would have done
with Chateaubriand!
Bravo dear Trevor!
A full haiku recipe?!
You make me look bad.
I like to have fun

with time permitting!
Catch up haikus show

So are you late with the plastic wrap pureed fish or are you skipping it?
Um, plastic wrapped fish?
Even I must draw the line.
Methinks I will skip!
Good call
